The market leader in independent living solutions, AKW, has added a new addition to its stylish Luda® electric shower range, expanding its appeal to a wider market.  Now available in an 8.5kW version, the Luda® and Luda® S new offering provides the installer with an easy fit shower solution, whilst keeping all the unique core functionality of the 10kW option.

The only electric shower designed specifically for the care market, the Luda® range provides a choice of models that are safe and easy to use in a distinctive teardrop design.  The 8.5kW model is quick and easy to install, avoiding the need for expensive upgrades to standard domestic wiring.

Commenting, Wendy Ryley, Product Director of AKW, says:  “We are always looking to introduce new models to meet market needs.  We have a programme of continuous development on all of our products and the Luda® range is no exception.  By carefully listening to market feedback, we have been able to refine and improve the design even further. Many more people are looking at how they can adapt bathrooms in their own homes to suit elderly users and with care funding under increased pressure, the need for self-funded adaptations is growing.  By introducing the 8.5kW version of the Luda®, we are providing installers with an easy-to-fit replacement option that they can offer to customers. The design would make an attractive addition to any bathroom.”

An 8.5kW version is available for both the original white Luda®, which carries RNIB approval, and the equally stylish chrome and silver Luda® S. Both products have many practical features, including high contrast, tactile temperature and flow buttons and thermostatic controls that are easily set to user requirements.  Thanks to being waterproof to IP45 rating, the showers can be installed in the sprayhead water splash zone and IQ Smart technology, developed by AKW, offer an extra level of temperature-controlling intelligence, precisely regulate temperature levels and water supply.

For users looking for extra support or stability the Luda® Care kit gives additional support in the showering area, with a, unique riser rail doubling as a grab rail capable of supporting up to 130kg, along with easy to use shower head and extended 2m shower hose ideal for assisted bathing. Final assurance is provided through Luda’s® ability to safeguard the user against adverse circumstances, such as unregulated water temperatures or pressure fluctuations. .

AKW TAKES THE BEST AND MAKES IT BETTER WITH LAUNCH

New Pump range now even better from AKW ltdThe latest shower waste pump introduced by AKW, the market leading manufacturer of lifestyle solutions for inclusive living, takes the best features of its two existing diaphragm pump models to offer a new design with superior performance and reliability. The new M17 digital shower pump, which will ultimately replace the existing M1 and M3 pumps, is compatible with AKW’s wide range of pumped wastes and trays and can be connected directly to its award-winning LUDA® electric care shower.

The M17 is a new design with excellent reliability that has been proven in extensive field testing. The new pump takes on AKW’s heritage and long standing experience in the manufacturing of shower waste pumps to give the very best product within the high performance pumps available on the market.
The pump has been developed to achieve a high capacity of 17 litres of water per minute in real bathroom installations to ensure efficient water and debris clearing with electric and mixer showers.

A unique planetary design gearbox, new 4-valve pump head and improved pump head design makes M17 the quietest pump in its class with almost silent operation.

IP45 rated, the pump can be located in Zone 1 or 2 of a shower room, and is the only shower drain pump system in the world with a BSI Kite Mark.

Lloyd Best, Group Design & Product Development Director of AKW says: “Our aim with the M17 is to rationalise our range of pumps to simplify choice while at the same time bringing in innovations that offer greatly enhanced performance. The M17 is an outstanding product with many benefits and is excellent value. We received universally positive feedback during the field trials with installers confirming both the ease of installation and superior performance.”

For ease of installation, it has the same fittings and electrical connections as the current range and both inlet and outlet are industry-standard 22mm fittings. The non-handed pump allows the flexibility to rotate the pump head to allow flow in either direction making the installation quicker and easier.

With a number of kit options available, the M17 comes with a five-year warranty with full technical and maintenance after-sales support offered by AKW during the warranty period. AKW is also offering a special launch promotion from February: with every M17 pump, a black-and-white carer shower screen can be purchased for the reduced price of £200.
