Whether working on a new build or refurbishment project, the rising cost of energy means that minimising heat loss is more important than ever. Architects and specifiers are under increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions, to meet both legislative demands and the changing needs of homeowners.

A good UD-value (the U-value of the fitted door) is of the utmost importance when choosing products, but builders still face the challenge of achieving high levels of insulation without compromising on style, security or ease of use. Leading garage and entrance door manufacturer Hörmann has paid close attention to all of these factors when designing its popular ranges.

The company’s ThermoPro and ThermoPro Plus steel entrance door collections are a prime example. Offering excellent UD-values, at just 1.1W/(m2.K) and 0.82W/(m2.K) respectively, they benefit from rigid steel polyurethane-filled door leaves of 46mm or 65mm thick. Therefore, these doors are ideal for insulation-conscious refurbishment projects and low carbon new builds, and as a result, they will have a noticeable impact on energy bills.

Security is also a key feature of Hörmann’s ThermoPro and ThermoPro Plus, thanks to multi-point locking. Conical swing, security and lock bolts pull the door tightly shut, while further security bolts on the hinge side make it practically impossible to force open.

For added break-in resistance, selected doors in the ThermoPro range have been allocated Police-approved Secured by Design status. Having passed stringent tests set by the Association of Chief Police Officers, these doors are some of the most secure on the market.

Another ground-breaking duo of highly insulated entrance doors from Hörmann is the ThermoSafe and ThermoCarbon. These aluminium doors feature some of the lowest UD-values available, at just 0.8W/(m².K) and 0.47W/(m².K). With 9-point locking as standard on the ThermoCarbon, and 5-point locking on the ThermoSafe, they are also extremely break-in resistant.

As with most Hörmann entrance doors, a wide range of finishes, colours, glazing options and matching side elements are available, whatever the budget. So whether you’re looking to create a contemporary or traditional look, Hörmann has the products and expertise needed.
