Builders, home improvers, and designers add render to facades for several reasons;   to protect the structure, improve the aesthetics, and to boost energy efficiency. But if the products aren’t used effectively, or applied incorrectly, they can cause lasting problems that they were designed to overcome, such as water ingress, trapping moisture, which can lead to cracking or damp.

KEIM Mineral Paints Limited are known for their natural, environmentally friendly interior and exterior paints, but here we focus on their lesser-known range of renders; each designed for specific applications but all providing lasting durability, protection, and performance.

Why do we render?

There are several reasons why we would choose to apply render. The common reasons include;

  • Protection from the weather – water soaking, reduce damp, in wet climates
  • Improve structural durability – cover cracks, stabilise aging masonry
  • Aesthetic upgrade – modernise older properties, add colour or texture
  • Improve insulation – keep heat in during winter, lower heating bills

How KEIM is different

Typical render types available include cement, lime, acrylic, and silicone based. KEIM renders, as with all KEIM products, use natural, inorganic ingredients, reflecting the philosophy that dates to 1878, of being kind to use and kind to the environment.

Advantages of KEIM mineral renders;

  • Environmentally friendly ISO 14001
  • High vapour permeability (walls can breathe)
  • Provides durable, colour stable protection
  • Fire resistant to A1
  • UV stable
  • Increases light reflectivity
  • Available in bagged powder form

Products include

  • KEIM Uniputz 0.6 version (KEIM Universal Render Fine). A ready to use product ideal for interior or exterior application using hydraulic lime, white cement with sand and mineral fibre fillers
  • KEIM NHL-KP 3.0 (KEIM Kalkputz Grob), perfect for localised patch repairs of existing lime rendered facades and lime base coat for KEIM NHL-KP 0.6
  • KEIM NHL-KP 0.6 (KEIM Kalkputz Fine), a complete thin lime coat system to be subsequently painted

Where can they be used?

  • Concealing cracks, flaking, or differences in textures

  • Can also be applied onto existing sound render
  • Used as a total render or for patch repairs
